Summer at CLA brings thoughts of camps, a single Sunday morning gathering, and special occasions for fellowship. Bus Ministry is launching neighbourhood initiatives, our Kids Explorer Camp is in July and our Youth / Young Adult camps are in August. We have a short-term mission team leaving for Poland next week and many families have planned time away for holidays. Our Sunday preaching series “Spirit Empowered Church” gives a signal to two summer ideas. First, the Spirit brings us renewal and that’s a great theme for July and August. Second, to encounter His Presence on Sundays will empower us towards His weekly assignments. God has something special for you this summer. We want to be a conduit for you to experience that. It also prepares us for the fall when we will launch a year long evangelism initiative rooted in the Acts text “and the Lord added daily those being saved”. I’m believing for a significant harvest in 2019-20 as healthy churches multiply. God has been preparing CLA over the past few years for community missional engagement. We are going to need His power to lean into that.
Additionally, we are relaunching the CLA School of Ministry as three new streams of spiritual development. The SOM will now be called the CLA Training Collective with three streams of focus – Mentoring, Discipleship and Leadership. Starting this fall, we expect to help students who are training in universities and colleges, to be apprenticed and sent out into God’s workforce. On Thursday I shared with our Young Adults how 2020 could be a significant year of spiritual depth for them as they join the discipleship stream. Something brand new for us is the Leadership stream focused on semi-retired and retiring Boomers as they find a new wave of expression in Kingdom leadership. You’ll be hearing more about the Collective this summer.
Two more summer items. The 3,000 people who call CLA their home church connect with each other through our website and online portal. We are making some adjustments and because Sunday is an all campus link we will take some time to introduce Church Center as our new Giving, Registration and Life Group platform. We believe this new platform will save CLA money and be easier to use. In July, we will take a little time in each service to do some tutoring.
Second, Sunday we start a four-week course called Discovery. This is the first time we’ve run Discovery in the summer, but we believe it’s a unique opportunity for food, friendships and orientation. After the 10am service we are inviting those who are new, those who have never taken Discovery, and those who feel disconnected, to invest in the four-week experience. Come meet the pastors, hear about the “why” of CLA and meet some new people. I know it is a risk to walk into something unknown but I believe the risk is going to be worth it. Come join us!
