Where does your income come from?
The majority of our revenue comes from the tithes and offerings of our Members and attendees. There is some revenue that comes in from registration fees collected for our various events and classes and the rental of our facilities. These fees often only partially subsidize the direct cost of these activities.
Does CLA give any money away?
We believe that we are called not only as individuals, but also as a church, to be financially generous. In addition to all the local ministry we do, we also give a considerable amount each year to support many international and local missions partners, churches and benevolence needs within our communities. These amounts frequently add up to more than 20% of our total revenue.
Do you operate with a budget?
Yes. We take the stewardship of finances very seriously. An annual budget is prepared every spring for the following fiscal year by our management and approved by the Leadership Team. This budget is incredibly detailed and is guided by the goals and objectives of each ministry area within the church. This budget is used as a tool through the year to monitor the use of funds as intended.
Do you have financial accountability standards?
We have a firm set of internal controls that help to ensure continued integrity with the management of the finances. Our annual financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations, supplemented by the Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE). We have an external audit each year by an independent CPA firm that audits our financial statements in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
Do you have a report showing where all the money goes?
Yes. Our annual report is available by request from our front office, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you provide any contribution statements or donation receipts to its donors?
Yes. A contribution statement and donation receipt (for tax purposes) is mailed to each donor who has given $25 or more annually near the beginning of the following calendar year. Also, contributors have access to view their giving history at any time by logging into our online community, ChurchCenter.
Why do I need to provide so much personal information when I give online?
We collect and store pertinent information of our donors so that we can effectively provide a contribution statement and donation receipt for tax purposes.
What payment types can I use for text/online giving giving?
On our online and text giving platforms we accept Visa, Mastercard and Visa Debit.
How secure is your text giving service?
We take security very seriously. Bank-level encryption is used when transmitting your credit card data to our secure processor, and sensitive credit card information never enters our database. It's transmitted directly from your mobile device to the payment processor. Also of note, your name, address and credit card number are entered via a secure website in your browser and not via text message.
What happens if I get a new credit or debit card?
For online giving you can update your credit card number the next time you give in ChurchCenter. For text giving you can update your card effortlessly by texting “Update card” to our ten-digit text giving number, and then follow the instructions.
Are text donations charged to my cell phone bill?
No. Donations are charged to your credit card, which you register at the time of your first donation.
How do I make a change to my recurring giving setup?
If you still are contributing through MyCLA: After logging into MyCLA click on “give” on the left menu bar and then “schedules/history”. Here you can view all past and current schedules and cancel the recurring transaction. If you wish to continue a recurring donation, please log in to our new location, ChurchCenter.com or download the app. For more information on this please go to this page.
Why isn’t giving from a chequing account in online giving working?
Although this feature will be added very soon, unfortunately the chequing account payment type is listed as an option although that option is only available to donors from the U.S. If you wish to give from your chequing account we recommend considering the use of a Visa Debit card in our online giving platform, setting up an automatic withdrawal, giving by debit card at one of our Sunday services or by cheque.
I’m unable to come to church on Sunday and I would prefer not to give online, do you have envelopes available for me to mail in my tithe?
Yes! If you would like for us to mail you a supply of envelopes for your tithe contributions, please send your name and address to email@example.com. A supply of envelopes is also available at Guest Services at each campus.
