God Is Our Refuge & Strength

Greetings CLA!

In this season of challenge and change, we can be comforted by the verse, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” - Psalm 46:1. Praise God that we can run to the Lord Jesus for refuge and strength in difficult times! He is our rock and our firm foundation in the storms of life. Amen!

I wanted to share a quick update about Recovery Church. Like many of the various CLA congregations, we are continuing to meet online. “Do not forsake the gathering together of believers…” - Hebrews 10:25. We are continuing to gather together on Facebook Live on Sunday evenings at 6 PM. I have to admit, it does feel a bit different for myself—I am usually preaching to my iPhone in my garage beside our minivan, but we continue to gather together by faith! Various Recovery Church leaders are also sharing five-minute video devotionals on Instagram twice a week to encourage church members. We are also continuing with our regular prayer meeting schedule, which I strongly believe is the key to tapping into the power of God for the supernatural to occur for the church and our personal lives!

This is a difficult time for people in the recovery community as a whole. When you’re in recovery you are taught “don’t isolate”, but due to COVID-19, people are being forced to isolate. Just this week, I learned of a Recovery Church member who passed away due to an overdose, and another member who overdosed but recovered. Please be praying for Recovery Church during this challenging time.

In other news, Vic Friesen and I are organizing an “Evangelism Seminar” on Sunday June 7 at 7 PM, using ZOOM. I can remember many years ago attending a Youth With A Mission Discipleship Training course in the Caribbean and being asked to witness to people on the street. I was terrified! I had no idea what to say. If you’re like me, you might feel the same way when you hear the words “evangelism”. During this seminar we will come alongside you, so you are able to share your testimony in three minutes or less using the format:

  • “What was your life like before you knew Jesus?”
  • “How did you come to know Jesus as your Saviour?”
  • “What is your life like now with Jesus?”

You will have the opportunity to practice sharing your testimony. We will also share ideas on how to go from talking about the weather with your neighbours, to talking about Jesus and sharing your testimony! We would love to have you join us! We will be sending out more information about the seminar shortly.

God bless,

Pastor Joel Reimer
