Miracle on My Street
A word from Pastor Jenni Colwell
This week I asked my children, “What do you want for Christmas?” as I love to shop online on Black Friday for the best deals! However, maybe a better question to ask would be, “What can we give for Christmas?”
Christmas was birthed in a spirit of giving… “when the right time arrived, God sent His Son into this world (born of a woman, subject to the law) to free those who, just like Him, were subject to the law. Ultimately, He wanted us all to be adopted as sons and daughters.” Galatians 4:4-5.
The CLA staff is so very excited about our Christmas Project: It’s an Advent Countdown Calendar called: “Miracle on My Street” and it’s for everyone, no matter how old or young. The Advent Calendar holder is in the shape of a wooden house, which represents your house. It comes complete with a box of 25 cards shaped like doors to count down the days from December 1st to the 25th. Each ‘door’ gives you a daily devotional about a miracle, with questions and a missional task. Take a moment to dive into God’s Word with your spouse, family or roommate, but don’t stop there. Each day of Advent is an invitation to give something too: a kind note, a gift to a neighbour or employee, a phone call or prayer, practical help, generosity. Some of the tasks are simple, some will take planning, some can be done together in your Life Group, but all have missional outcomes. They’re meant to stir you and to bless those around you.
Your FREE Family Advent Calendar will be available starting November 22 at any small gathering at church. They will also be available via drive-thru – Sunday, November 22 at Maple Ridge from 4-6 pm and Sunday, November 29 at Langley, from 11-1 pm at the front doors. Reception will also have them in both Maple Ridge and Langley beginning November 23.
Pastor Marty will deliver the calendars to his families in Sooke. Make sure you pick yours up by November 30 because the countdown begins December 1st! We have lots, more than 700 (one per household), so don’t leave it for someone else. It is first come, first serve, but the focus is all about serving others!
Especially in this world where social distancing is now normal, hope is fading, and many are looking for answers, we are called to celebrate the season of Immanuel, “God with us” by being light in dark places. It’s time to be hospitable and generous, it’s time to gain entrance into people’s lives!
Will you join the whole church in MAKING A MIRACLE HAPPEN ON YOUR STREET?
