Missions 2020

This year our Missions theme is “20/20 Vision”—God’s vision for Missions at CLA. Where is God leading us? What does He have in store for this year and new decade? To see God do great things in our lives, we must look to Him to direct our paths and to give us His vision for what He would want us to do. Twentyyears ago,I went on my first mission’s trip. It’s funny to think that on my first trip to Africa, a lot of my excitement was that I would be able to see African animals. That was the vision I had. But it was on that trip that God rocked my world. We were building houses for the orphans and one night as I laid under a mosquito net,God spoke to me. All I remember is that I told Him if I were asked to go again, I would say YES. He gave me a new vision and He has shown me things that I would never have dreamed about. It has been amazing!

This month we will be celebrating and hosting some of our missionaries. Each of these missionaries have been given a vision—a vision that they would go with the authority of Jesus and make disciples. Each has a unique story that requires obedience, focus, and clarity to see the vision fulfilled. It’s been my privilege to hear and see first-hand the work of many of our missionaries. Every time, I’ve come back excited with what I’ve seen. The LORD has opened my eyes and let me see the most amazing work in so many nations. Recently I was in the Arctic and saw the work among the Inuit people of Northern Canada. It is amazing!

This week, Christo and Sarah Emmanuel, originally from CLA, are with us. Christo came from India as a young adult, met Sarah, and got married. They went back to India with a calling and a vision—to build a church in Christo’s own neighbourhood. It began in a tiny living room and fourteenyears later, they pastor a congregation of 1,000+ members. Their vision is to reach millions for Jesus, disciple believers, and train them to be effective leaders who can be sent out as full-time workers to the nations. Many CLA Missions teams have gone to India and served at Living God Church.

Jesus told His disciples,“All authority has been given to ME in heaven and on earth. Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations”(Matthew 28:18–19). Let’s open our eyes to see what God has in store for CLA, for each one of us, as we say YES to where He leads and what He would have us do.

Habakkuk 1:5 says,“Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” This verse became special to me while flying over Greenland to Africa... and it has become a reality in my life.

To God Be the Glory!
