My Friday Five

This week we had our annual staff day, a day off site for our team to get away for spiritual and relational refreshment. Part of the day was spent discussing this “Year of Salvation”. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation as we pray and plan. It has great potential to be a life transforming year.

On Sunday, September 15th all campuses linked to listen to the launch of our “Year of Salvation”. I preached from I Timothy 2, reminding CLA that God loves all people and desires us to pray for everyone so that all would be saved. If you were away and didn’t hear that message check it out here  God’s timing, CLA’s health and our current team of staff and leaders makes this the strategic time for launching the “Year of Salvation”. Every year we see dozens of people come to Christ and follow him in water baptism. This year we are praying “and the Lord added daily to the church those being saved” (Acts 2:47). We are believing for an increase of favour and opportunity. In all areas of CLA, it’s campuses and Langley congregations, we desire to see people of all ages encounter Jesus Christ.

To this end, we have encouraged each person at CLA to identify five friends in the immediate sphere of influence that they could pray for. These could be people from work, your family, at your school or in your neighbourhood. We are hoping you know them by name and will commit to praying for them every week. We are calling this our “Friday Five”. Thousands of names have come in. We think we will be praying for 10,000 people. I encourage you to fill out the prayer card in the seat pocket at church. It’s perforated so you keep half and we keep half. If you would like a reminder to pray on Friday’s for your five, text the word “salvation” to 604-210-8831.

At our Annual General Meeting, our membership ratified CLA’s new board. We have 9 board members who guide committees, research and development. As chairman of this team, I can tell you that they work hard to protect the calling of our church and to aid me in working with my staff. I appreciate them very much. Monday we had our first board meeting followed by a meeting of the Affordable Housing Committee. That was over 4 hours long! This is important work. Please pray for the CLA board.
