On the last day of our women’s retreat this past June, a woman pulled me to the side and began to share with me what God was doing in her life. She had never been to women’s ministry at CLA but a close friend persuaded her to go to the retreat. She came hesitantly, ready to get in her car and drive home at the first moment she felt uncomfortable. She shared how she had always been convinced church, and in particular women’s ministry, just wasn’t for her. Her past had some ugly scars and after a painful divorce that left her financially drained and emotionally empty, she was ashamed to admit that she had become very angry and resentful.
And then something beautiful happened… she listened as woman after women shared their own stories of sin, heartache, trials and most importantly Jesus comfort and forgiveness– she saw that she was not alone. She began to feel released from her shame and find healing in her pain. She realized that she was right where God wanted her. For the first time in years she felt like she was in a place where she was accepted, loved and had finally begun to understand that with Christ no matter what you are walking through, you have a friend and a Savior who is with you every step of the way.
Oh my heart! Yes!! “This is what it is all about” I told her! We hugged each other tight and pretty much went through an entire box of Kleenex together but I felt overwhelmed with thankfulness for the way God had moved in her life.
I love that this past year we have encouraged one another as we have shared the beauty of God’s mercy and faithfulness in our stories. Ladies, we need each other to pass on the good news of what God is doing in our lives. It builds our faith and encourages us when we come together to share and lift one another up in prayer.
This year we look forward to sharing more of “His Story” in our lives and to digging even deeper into His Word together through good Bible studies, important messages on what the Scripture says about relevant topics in today’s culture and special times of worship and prayer. I can’t wait! There is a place for you here and I warmly invite you to be a part of women’s ministry at CLA this fall.
