The other night I watched a short news program about how people had adjusted to their “new normal” since COVID-19 and in light of self-isolation and social distancing. It was amazing to see all the creativity that has transpired in people in just a couple of months: people who typically spend hours at the gym every day have turned their living rooms into makeshift gyms and are now doing Zoom workouts with people from all over the country, women are learning to cut their husbands hair watching YouTube videos, birthday parties involve drive-by celebrations, and, believe it or not—entire choirs continue to practice using online platforms! And of course, churches all over the globe have found new and creative ways to worship through online experiences with their church families on Sunday mornings and throughout the week. Amazing!
What is really evident is the fact that it seems as though more than ever people have a deep longing to connect with others. Along with isolation can come loneliness—and in this season, we have become very aware of our deep need to connect with one another in some way. That’s probably why my inbox started to fill up with messages a couple of weeks ago. I heard from women who were so grateful for our Sunday Morning live stream services but were deeply missing our gathering times on Wednesday morning. They missed the friendships, the prayer times, and the chance to study and learn the Word of God together with others.
That’s why today we are excited to launch the sign up for a four-week online life group experience that we’re calling “Pop-Up Life Groups”. These online life groups will run through the month of May and will give you the opportunity once a week to gather over Zoom with a group of people to pray, share, and discuss the video study series “Life Shared”. There will be an opportunity for you to sign up for either a daytime group or an evening group. As well, our Women’s Ministry will be offering an online group on Wednesday mornings for the month of May on the Book of Ruth with a video series and study by Bianca Olthoff, found on RightNow Media. Just because we can’t be together doesn’t mean we can’t join together!
We really want to encourage those of you who are not already connected to a life group at CLA to join us as we launch this new four-week online life group experience. I believe it will be an incredible time of building our faith and staying strong in Christ as we all look to Him to guide us through this season.
