The Helm Center

This week, as a church family, we are sending Kevin and Dawn Bralovich and their children Taya and Teagan out on an exciting new mission to Nova Scotia. They are beginning a brand-new Recovery Ministry called ‘The Helm’. They have both served at CLA in Recovery Church and at the Wagner Hills Farm (recovery centre). Their love for God and compassionate hearts for the hurting and addicted men and women of our community has been inspiring. Here is an excerpt from their brochure:

There’s something to be said for walking a mile in a man’s shoes. To know that your leadership has been right where you are, felt the shame, hopelessness and fear then tasted and seen the Lord’s goodness... The Helm Directors and their children are a living breathing testimony of God’s faithfulness, growth and restoration. Kevin’s 4-year journey through methamphetamine addiction, then a sentence to a year in recovery at a farm in Nova Scotia gives him perspective and hands-on knowledge of what those still ‘stuck’ are going through. Kevin and Dawn have spent nearly a decade in BC’s lower mainland pastoring Recovery Church, directing at Wagner Hills farm, serving on Boards and one on one in the addictions community. It’s not just a passion, it’s a calling.

The vision of the Helm Center has been the same since inception: a working farm on an acreage with room for expansion. A coastal neighbourhood far enough from the downtown core to help with safety and distraction, but close enough for integration to work, church, and school. We dream of a property in almost turn key condition with the ability to house 8-10 men from the onset as well as live in staff. The hope is that the land would provide opportunity for income generation through its natural resources. The farm would come with smaller outbuildings for livestock and a barn for housing a wood shop where men can learn new skills and help generate income for the society.

I believe we will be able, as individuals and as a church, to come along side Kevin and Dawn to fuel this new ministry with our prayers and finances. And to go and help with work and ministry teams. May God bless the work of The Helm and bring about many transformed lives in the power of God.

To God be the Glory!
