Weekly Word From the Pastor

On Easter Sunday, April 21st we will be having a Baptismal Service during both the 9 and 11 am services. It is going to be powerful! So why should someone get baptized and why should YOU get baptized and not hold off any longer?

Water baptism is an outward response of an inward decision. If you believe in Jesus and have made Him Lord over your life and have the passion and desire, with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, to follow Jesus your whole life – then you’re eligible. Do it. Baptism does not make you a believer, it is simply a public statement to the world, family and friends that you’re a follower of Jesus. We also baptize publicly and not in private because you are also communicating to the people watching, “I need you as my faith family to give encouragement and support as I follow Jesus, I cannot do faith in isolation or alone, walk with me.” (Acts 2:38)

Water baptism is also symbolic of cleansing. It’s a symbol of Christ’s death and resurrection. To be baptized on Easter is powerful. Romans 6:4 states, “therefore we are buried with Him through baptism into death so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also walk in newness of life.” It is a sign that the past has been dealt with because of all Jesus did for us. The past is gone. 2 Cor 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation, old has gone and new has come!”

We first see baptism in the New Testament through the ministry of John the Baptist and then in the book of Acts in the early church. Jesus Himself was baptized by John the Baptist. As Jesus came up from the water, the skies opened up and the Holy Spirit descended in the form of a dove and a voice said, “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased” This was the start of Jesus’ earthly ministry.

A word to those who have been a follower of Jesus for a long time and yet you have never been baptized – please, there is no shame or embarrassment about getting baptized now. We believe that God blesses an obedient life. It’s time.

You want to get baptized on Easter? Take note, there will be a one-hour Baptism Class next Sunday, April 7th in the Board Room at 11 am. The application will be filled in during the class. There is no need to register for the class. See you there. Bless you CLA.
