The start of a new year feels full of promise. January 1 arrives and we tell ourselves, this is the year everything changes! We set goals, buy gym memberships, and dream of better habits: getting fit, reading more, saving money, spending time with family. For a moment, it feels possible.
But then life happens. Work piles up, stress creeps in, and suddenly we’re back to late nights, doom scrolling, and skipping the gym for that $10 latte. Even with the best intentions, most resolutions fade by February. Why? Are we lazy? Are we weak?
Nobel laureate Richard Thaler offers a better explanation: “I don’t really think people are dumb. I think the world is hard.” Every day we face demands and distractions that leave us feeling isolated and overwhelmed. Change is tough when we try to do it alone.
The Power of Community Real transformation doesn’t start with a list of goals—it starts with people. When we share life with others, we find encouragement, wisdom, and strength to move forward. Authentic relationships help us take steps toward the life we long for. Community reminds us we’re not alone in the struggle. This is why Christ calls us to live as His Body—connected, caring, and committed to one another—so that together we can grow and thrive in Him.
That’s why we love ALPHA. It’s more than a program—it’s a space where people gather, share a meal, ask big questions, and discover truth together. ALPHA models real community from day one: we eat together, we talk honestly, and we encourage one another to explore faith and life. It’s a place where people meet Jesus, the One who offers life to the full.
Join the Journey We launch ALPHA on January 14, and we’re praying for every person who joins this journey. Each week, people will gather around a table, share a meal, and explore life’s biggest questions in a safe and welcoming environment. Many will come with doubts and fears, but we believe they’ll encounter the living God who loves them deeply.
