On Mission With God

Truth is, God’s Word calls all believers to become good workers who, then and only then, can become good witnesses. Do you want to learn how to be on mission with God in your workplace?

Good Work Sharon!

One day, seemingly out of the blue, a manager from a local nursing home called me. She asked to meet with me, as she needed some leadership consulting and coaching for her workplace challenges. When I met with her, I asked how she heard about my leadership consulting services. Her face lit up when she reported: “We have a nurse on staff who attends your church. Between you and me, Sharon is not only the best worker we have on staff, she’s also the best example of a Christian I have ever seen in my life! So, when Sharon recommended, I call you, I didn’t hesitate.”

I wonder if the late Dr. Billy Graham had people like Sharon in mind when he predicted: “I believe one of the next great moves of God is going to be through the believers in the workplace.” In saying this, I don’t think he envisioned preaching pulpits in workplaces, but rather Christians, like Sharon, who are on mission to become good workers, in order to become good witnesses for Jesus.

Missiologists (experts in the study of Christian Missions) have coined “the 10/40 window” of world missions. This window corresponds to countries located between 10 and 40 degrees latitude north of the equator, which are the least reached and/or least receptive to the Good News of Jesus Christ. While the 10/40 window still remains a focal point of contemporary missions work, another window is opening up wide around the world: the 9 to 5 window. This window refers to the working hours of all Christian believers in their workplaces.

If Dr. Graham was correct, and I suspect he was, then God wants to move in the workplaces of all believers through all believers, including you. Though this may be an uncommon message heard in many churches, here at Christian Life Assembly we are sounding the call for all to become good workers who become good witnesses, regardless of the foul state of some workplaces and coworkers. Indeed, God’s light shines brightest in the darkest places and workplaces. Truth is, God’s Word calls all believers to become good workers who, then and only then, can become good witnesses.
