Happy Thanksgiving weekend everyone!
Psalm 33:3 calls worshippers to “Sing to the LORD, a new song.” New songs generate interest, don’t they? Recently a popular singer released a new album and while I’m not a fan, I was curious how it would be received by her very excited fans. I’m told the response hasn’t all been positive. I’m observing that these fans wanted “more songs” but not necessarily “new songs.” New songs come from new experiences, new circumstances, or new beginnings; new can be exciting, but it can also be unsettling, disorienting, disruptive and just plain scary. In the Old Testament, it was musicians who led the people to respond to what God was doing – if it required a new song, then, guess what? – God was doing something new.
We can’t deny that God is also doing something new at CLA, because there are many changes in progress right now. And CLA Kids is no different. We have been in a season of transition since the summer in terms of staffing and this is taking place on 3 out of 4 of our campuses. I’d like to celebrate this as a “new song,” as potential for growth and getting ready for God’s best.
Psalm 33 also gives some excellent reasons to respond to change with this kind of faith:
God is Creator – the one who initiates and orchestrates new beginnings and transformation vss. 6-9
God is Counsellor – the one who offers guidance and support through change vss.10-12.
God is Overseer – a Foreman or Site Supervisor who has the blueprints for all the change vss. 13-15.
Since this is the God we serve, we can do the hard but important work of singing a new song in response to the change God is working across all our campuses. Today would you pray for CLA Kids as you come and worship this Family Sunday as five generations together? It’s going to be a service full of praise and joyful noise.
And would you pray for the CLA Kids Staff at all campuses:
