Christian Life Assembly is seeking an experienced Assistant Pastor to join our Senior Leadership Team. This role provides oversight of Sunday gatherings, worship and communications ministries, and discipleship initiatives across our multisite church. We’re looking for a Spirit-filled leader with 10+ years of pastoral ministry experience, a heart for equipping others, and strong administrative skills.

Position Summary

The Assistant Pastor will serve as a key leader within CLA, supporting the mission and vision of the church under the direction of the Lead Pastor. The role includes Administration (50%), Pastoral Leadership Ministry (25%), Teaching (15%), and Ministry Care (10%).

Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000

Purpose

  • To provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of ministry that supports the mission of CLA church and the vision of the Lead Pastor, in alignment with CLA’s multisite philosophy.
  • To serve on Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • To recruit, teach and equip people to know, love and serve Jesus. Key to that is the spiritual formation and development of disciple-making disciples.
  • To know and represent CLA values, vision and mission.
  • To provide pastoral leadership and oversight of Sunday gatherings, special gatherings (i.e. Christmas Eve Services), through the ministry of Worship, Tech, Communications and First Impressions.
  • To ensure Grow initiatives across the church align with CLA’s Discipleship Pathway.
  • To execute duties and responsibilities with compassion, grace, competency and character above reproach.
  • To shepherd God’s people within circles of influence.
  • To administrate God’s work and workers (staff & volunteers) with efficiency and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities

Vision Implementation:

  • Partner with the Lead Pastor to translate vision into actionable ministry strategies that reflect CLA’s distinctives and a Spirit-led leadership.
  • Serve on the SLT (Senior Leadership Team), and alongside the MLT (Ministry Leadership Team).
  • Develop plans and strategies primarily towards Gather and Grow.
  • Develop and steward budgets and accountability towards vision implementation.

Staff Leadership:

  • Supervise and develop pastoral and administrative staff, fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability, and spiritual growth.
  • Serve as Direct Report to Worship Pastor, Communications Director, Technical Director, First Impressions Coordinator, Men’s Ministries Volunteer Leadership Team, Singles Ministries Volunteer Leadership Team, Library Volunteer Coordinator and E-Brown Resources liaison.

Volunteer Support:

  • Help cultivate a healthy discipleship culture by raising up disciples who make disciples.
  • Recruit, train and coach Life Group leaders and teams.
  • Facilitate pathways and systems to support the training of volunteers primarily in the areas of “Gather” and “Grow.”
  • Seek accountability through CLA’s volunteer covenants that embrace each congregation in all campuses.

Ministry Alignment:

  • Ensure all ministries are aligned with the church’s mission and values, and are effectively resourced and evaluated.
  • Giving particular attention to the Gather and Grow (Discipleship) priorities. This embraces both the staff and the volunteers.
  • Of particular importance would be ministry alignment with CLA’s Discipleship Pathway through classes, seminars, and Life Groups.

Spiritual Leadership:

  • Provide pastoral care, occasional preaching, and model a Spirit-filled life rooted in prayer, Scripture, and service.
  • Be a spiritual mentor to other pastors, interns, students and volunteers.

Missional Engagement:

  • Represent the church by living a missional lifestyle.
  • Build pathways, especially in Life Groups, to encourage missional living leading to the transformation of lives.
  • Assist CLA in the broader community and the PAOC as an official representative.

Oversight of Sunday Gatherings:

1. Worship Ministry

  • Develop, implement, evaluate strategic vision for the effective operation of worship ministry in conjunction with the overall vision of CLA
  • Provide leadership, pastoral care, accountability, necessary resources, communication, inspiration to staff and volunteers
  • Oversee recruitment, training, motivation and potential termination of staff and volunteers
  • Develop and implement budget, including ongoing monitoring of finances
  • Ensure the coordination, administration, and scheduling of rehearsals
  • Oversee the use, inventory, and maintenance of instruments and equipment
  • Oversee the management of worship repertoire, working with key volunteers and staff to ensure balanced, biblical, culturally fitting selection
  • Oversee Sunday Design Team

2. Technical Arts

  • Provide pastoral leadership to Tech staff and volunteers
  • Liaise with Tech Director for projects
  • Provide support and accountability for ongoing development and training

3. Communications

  • Provide pastoral leadership to Communications staff and volunteers
  • Liaise with Communication Director for projects
  • Provide support and accountability for ongoing development and training

4. First Impressions

  • Work closely with staff and key volunteers overseeing the First Impressions teams: greeters, ushers, guest services & first responders.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, motivation and potential termination of staff and volunteers
  • Develop and implement budget, including ongoing monitoring of finances.

Oversight of Productions/Events:

  • Give leadership and oversight to special productions and events such as Christmas, Easter, Fall Kickoff, Canada Day and other special projects and events as requested by the Lead Pastor.

Pastoral Leadership and Ministry:

  • Support the Mission / Strategy of CLA with particular focus on “Gather” and “Grow.”
  • Assist in forming disciples by aligning ministry initiatives with CLA’s Discipleship Pathway.
  • Cultivate an environment of spiritual growth and learning.
  • Organize and/or oversee classes, seminars and other events for adult discipleship and growth to take place.
  • Champion and oversee Life Groups throughout community homes.
  • Train Life Group leaders and apprentices.
  • Administrate tasks and responsibilities with assistance of Administrative Assistant.
  • Teaching/Preaching in various contexts: Seminars/Retreats, Wednesday Classes, Sundays, Short Term Missions.
  • Pastoral care, pastoral counseling and shepherding of the CLA family.

Administration / Operational:

  • Budget & Finances.
  • Working together with SLT and the staff being supervised in the planning and oversight of CLA’s budget.

Qualifications

Education, Credentials & Theology

  • Pentecostal theology, practice, and spirituality are essential. Credentials (Ordained) with the PAOC are preferred. Through education and experience, there would be philosophy of ministry and vision for the local church leadership development. Ten years of ministry, ordination and an undergrauate degree in pastoral theology or Christian Leadership.
  • Embraces PAOC Statement of Fundamental and Essential Truths.
  • Filled with Holy Spirit, Operation of Gifts of the Holy Spirit.


Experience

  • 10 years pastoral/church ministry or equivalent.
  • Ministry in congregation as pastor or key Christian leadership equivalent.
  • Human Resources, Operational and Management skills, be an inspirational builder of people and teams.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience with staff and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communications skills - written and pulpit and/or significant public speaking.
  • Financial and budget.
