The Assistant Technical Director supports the Technical Director in all areas of the Technical Arts Department, with a primary focus on the operation, maintenance,and development of technical systems. Job Overview
The Assistant Technical Director supports the Technical Director in all areas of the Technical Arts Department, with a primary focus on the operation, maintenance,and development of technical systems. This role plays a key part in ensuring that CLA’s audio, video, lighting, and media systems function reliably and safely for all services and events. The Assistant TD also provides hands-on support for live production, trains volunteers and staff, and contributes to the long-term health and innovation of CLA’s technical infrastructure.
Salary Range: $38,000 - 42,000
Key Responsibilities
Technical Systems Management
- Maintain, repair, and upgrade audio, video, lighting, and media systems across all CLA campuses.
- Ensure all technical equipment is clean, organized, and in proper working condition.
- Assist in the design and implementation of new technical infrastructure and system improvements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system layouts, signal flow, and equipment inventory.
Event & Service Support
- Operate or supervise operation of technical systems during services and events.
- Support the Technical Director and Service Producer in preparing systems for Sunday services.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in real time during live events.
- Coordinate with ministry teams to ensure technical needs are met for special events.
Supporting Other Ministries
- Foster cooperative working relationships within and outside the department, including other ministries of CLA, outside agencies, and other service providers.
- Provide technical support to other ministries and external groups as directed by the Technical Director.
Volunteer Community and Team Culture
- Assist in training volunteers and staff on the proper use of technical systems.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to build technical confidence and competence.
- Help foster a culture of excellence, integrity, and spiritual service within the volunteer team.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Technical Director and other departments to ensure alignment of technical needs.
- Support the implementation of technical elements for creative projects and ministry initiatives.
- Participate in planning and design meetings when required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of live production systems (audio, video, lighting, media).
- Skilled in troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of technical equipment.
- Ability to train and support volunteers with varying levels of technical experience.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Capable of identifying and completing tasks independently.
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure during live events.
- Familiarity with production tools (e.g., ProPresenter, Planning Center, Allen & Heath/Digico digital consoles).
- Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and a heart for ministry.

Qualifications
3+ years of experience in live production or technical systems management preferred.Experience in a church or ministry setting is an asset.Strong technical aptitude and hands-on experience with AV systems.Proven ability to lead, train, and support volunteers.Committed to the mission and values of CLA Church.
