Word From The Pastor

In Abbotsford as in Heaven

As the Abbotsford Campus looks back on its first year, there is so much to celebrate. What began as a dream and a prayer has become a vibrant community where people are encountering Jesus, building meaningful relationships, and stepping into the joy of serving together. God has been faithful, and the investment of so many has made this possible.

One of the most beautiful marks of this past year has been the life that happens both around the altar and around the table. On Sundays, as people gather at the altar, we worship, listen to Scripture, pray for one another, and open ourselves to the presence of the Holy Spirit. These moments anchor us in God’s story and remind everyone that they are part of something much bigger than themselves.

Life also continues midweek around the table. In homes and coffee shops, across dinner tables and living rooms, Life Groups have become spaces where the way of Jesus is practiced in the everyday. Meals are shared, burdens are carried, prayers are lifted, and discipleship takes root in real life. It is not just about attending a group. It is about being formed into a family, learning together how to love God and love one another in tangible ways.

The level of engagement on Sundays with our Serve Team has also been remarkable. Week after week, dozens of people arrive early, stay late, and give their best on our serve teams. Being portable is a reality we navigate, yet our teams tackle each week with passion and energy. From welcoming at the door, to leading in worship, to teaching kids, to setting up behind the scenes, these faithful acts of service have created space for people to encounter Jesus in meaningful ways. This quiet, steady commitment has become the backbone of the campus.

A special word of gratitude is also due to those who took the leap of faith at the very beginning. Those that believed in the vision, invested their time and energy, moved into the city, and trusted God to lead. That foundation is now bearing fruit. I’m thankful for those who have put their trust in our leadership, and have contributed alongside us in this effort.

As the Abbotsford Campus steps into year two, there is a deep sense of expectation. The hope is that more people will come and see what God is doing, finding space to grow in becoming more like Jesus, to serve, and to join in the story Jesus is writing through His church. The best is still ahead, and God is continuing to build His church in Abbotsford.

And so, CLA, let this be an encouragement. We are one church with many locations, united in one vision and one family. What God is doing in Abbotsford is not a separate story, it is our story together. If you live in Abbotsford and have not yet come out to a Sunday gathering, now is the time! We’d love to see you as we aim to live rooted in our community and on mission right in our neighbourhoods. Whether you're in Langley, or Sooke, or Maple Ridge, If you have not visited and seen first-hand what you helped plant, consider this your invitation. And if you have not yet begun praying for this campus, start today. We share in this together, and the future God is shaping in Abbotsford belongs to all of us.
