Word from the Pastor

Rev Youth Transition

On Tuesday night at Rev, Pastor Mark Stevens, who helps guide our high school ministry, let the students know that he and his wife Ashleigh would be returning to Ontario this summer.

I am so grateful for Rev Youth Ministry. It has a rich history at CLA. So many young men and women have been reached and discipled through its influence. Many continue to be blessed by its leadership, events and the relationships found there. I run into people all the time who tell me they connected with this important ministry and or one of our camps / conferences / special events. Today the ministry is anchored by a middle school and high school program. They gather for group times of worship but also “hubs” which break into grades, male and female, led by student leaders who care deeply for their “kids”. In addition, two pastors and a part time administrator are hired to help coordinate it all and to pour into leaders and to help parents. It’s a very important ministry at CLA.

On Tuesday night at Rev, Pastor Mark Stevens, who helps guide our high school ministry, let the students know that he and his wife Ashleigh would be returning to Ontario this summer. Mark & Ashleigh came out to BC to go to Summit Pacific College and connected with CLA. For the past couple years Mark has been a huge blessing in Rev and Ashleigh has worked in our Communications Dept. It was an emotional night as Mark is deeply loved and appreciated in the Rev community, especially the hub leaders and students. I want to thank this couple for making a step of faith 5 years ago, what an adventure it’s been. Both Ashleigh and Mark have worked hard, been committed and often gone beyond the call of duty. They have blessed us through friendship, prayers, and a spiritual example. Please pray for them as they head home. They will end ministry here on June 30.

In these days of transition, I am so grateful for Pastor Breanne Newton. She has been an anchor in Rev and will remain on as a key leader in the department. This summer we Canadian Summer Job grants to increase our Rev staff and they are all assisted by the administrative help of Sam Stanley, their part time administrator. Both Pastor Mark Colwell and Pastor Bryce Lefebvre have helped with important conversations and to steer appropriate next steps. I am so thankful for their oversight and wisdom. I am working closely with the Rev staff and will be helping guide leadership decisions. Staffing decisions, especially pastors, are the responsibility of the Lead Pastor. Please pray for me as I seek God on next steps. Rev Youth Ministry has been an integral part of CLA and will continue to be an important priority.

Today I encourage you to consider an offering to Rev or to consider sponsorship of a student for this year’s camp. I have seen firsthand how Youth Camp can transform a life. Please help us to accomplish this again this year. Thank you.
