Why does CLA have an Annual Business Meeting for members and attenders?
This weekend we invite those from our four campuses and Recovery Church to consider joining us for our once-a-year business session. Why is this valuable?
Accountability – first it’s an opportunity for the pastor, board and key ministry leaders to share about the last ministry year (July 2024- June 2025). This accountability is a cornerstone of CLA’s foundation towards trust, spiritual development and future success. Transparency is key to any organization but is particularly important in a church where we practice the spiritual disciplines of honesty, clear communication and corporate guidance. Those who minister, give, pray and volunteer 365 days a year are allowed to share in the victories and challenges of the past year. Being able to ask questions, seek clarification and hear updates allows for a positive ministry environment. This promotes integrity and improvement. It also drives our ministry innovation.
Part of the Process – speaking of ministry innovation, the AGM helps us to drive forward major ministry, property or staff developments. Over the past few years these times have help the board and subcommittees to feel the heart of our congregation as it related to developing a new constitution, building Jenny Gaglardi Place or launching our Abbotsford Campus. All of these have been successful in part, due to membership involvement. This year we continue to move forward with our Maple Ridge Campus redevelopment. It has been a multi-year effort to seek God, to develop the best plan possible and to continually come back to our whole church for understanding and support. To that end we sent you a video which we hope you were able to watch. I know it was a bit long, but it was excellent in laying out the research, the partnerships and the “why” of the project. If you haven’t watched it yet, please watch it prior to the AGM.
Affirmation – our membership is asked to ratify our board nominated candidates who will serve on the CLA Board as Directors for a two-year term. This is the highest governing office at CLA. As chairman of this team, I affirm their value and incredible importance as many of them either serve on auxiliary committees or chair those committees. The research that these teams do, the help they provide to Sharon Village and Jenny Gaglardi Place as well as their prayerful attitudes is a huge part of CLA’s success over the last decade. I encourage you to know our board members, pray for them and be in relationship with them. They serve you so well.
